How to Complete a Self-Review

Step-by-step guide to completing your self-assessment via Nami in Slack

2 min read

Self-reviews are completed entirely through Slack by chatting with Nami, your AI performance assistant. There is no need to open a separate app or fill out a form -- everything happens in your Slack DMs.

Receiving Your Review Assignment

When a performance cycle launches that includes you, Nami sends you a direct message in Slack. The message includes:

  • The name of the cycle (e.g., "Q1 2026 Performance Review")
  • The deadline for completion
  • A "Let's go" button to start

Info

You will only receive a self-review DM if your admin or HR team has included you in the active cycle and selected self-review as one of the review types.

Starting the Review

Click the "Let's go" button in Nami's message. Nami walks you through each question one at a time in a conversational format.

Rating Questions (1-5 Scale)

For competency-based questions, you select a rating using interactive buttons:

RatingLabelMeaning
1Below expectationsPerformance is significantly below role requirements
2DevelopingPartially meets expectations; growing in this area
3Meets expectationsConsistently delivers at the expected level
4Exceeds expectationsFrequently goes above what is expected
5OutstandingExceptional performance; a role model in this area

Text Questions

For open-ended questions (such as accomplishments, areas for growth, or feedback), simply type your response directly in the Slack chat. There is no character limit, but aim for thoughtful, specific answers.

Tip

Be specific in text responses. Instead of "I did well this quarter," describe concrete projects, outcomes, and impact. Your self-review provides context that your manager reads before writing their assessment.

Using "Remind Me Later"

Not ready to complete the review right now? Click the "Remind me later" button and Nami will message you again after a delay. You can postpone multiple times, but keep the deadline in mind.

Warning

If you do not complete your self-review before the cycle deadline, it will be marked as incomplete. Your manager may still proceed with their review, but they will not have your self-assessment as context.

After Submission

Once you answer all questions, Nami confirms your submission. Your responses are:

  • Visible to your manager when they write their review
  • Stored in your review history on the Nami dashboard
  • Included in calibration sessions if your organization uses them

You cannot edit responses after submission. If you made a significant error, contact your HR admin to discuss options.
