Kudos in Nami lets you share recognition and constructive input with colleagues at any time, not just during formal review cycles. Use the /kudos slash command in Slack to send kudos instantly.
What Are Kudos?
Unlike cycle-based reviews, kudos are ongoing and informal. They capture real-time observations so nothing is forgotten when review season arrives. All kudos are stored in the recipient's profile and can be referenced during formal assessments.
Kudos Types
| Type | When to use |
|---|---|
| Praise | Recognize a job well done or a positive behavior |
| Constructive | Suggest a specific improvement with actionable advice |
| General | Share an observation that does not fit neatly into praise or constructive |
Sending Kudos via Slack
Type /kudos in any Slack channel to open the kudos form. Fill in:
- Recipient -- select the teammate you want to send kudos to.
- Feedback Type -- choose Praise, Constructive, or General.
- Your message -- write your kudos.
- Privacy options:
- Send anonymously -- hides your identity from everyone except HR/Admin.
- Share with recipient (checked by default) -- controls whether the recipient can see this kudos. Uncheck to send private kudos visible only to the recipient's manager and HR.
Visibility Rules
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| Sender | Always sees their own sent kudos |
| Recipient | Only sees kudos where "Share with recipient" was checked |
| Recipient's manager | Always sees all kudos for their direct reports |
| HR / Admin | Always sees all kudos across the workspace |
Info
Anonymous kudos hide your identity from the recipient and their manager. The from_user field is not stored in the database, so anonymity cannot be reversed -- even by admins.
Warning
When "Share with recipient" is unchecked, the recipient will not receive a Slack notification and will not see the kudos on their dashboard. This is useful for constructive feedback intended only for the manager.
How Recipients See Kudos
If "Share with recipient" is checked, the recipient receives a Slack DM from Nami with the kudos content and type. They can also view all received kudos on their Dashboard > Kudos page, organized by date and type.
Tip
Make kudos specific and timely. "Great job on the Q3 launch presentation -- your data storytelling really landed with the board" is far more useful than "Nice work."
Managers can see all kudos given to their direct reports (regardless of the "Share with recipient" setting), helping them build a fuller picture ahead of formal reviews.
