Understanding Roles & Permissions

What each role can see and do in Nami

2 min read

Nami uses a four-role hierarchy to control access to data and features across the dashboard. Every user in your workspace is assigned exactly one role. Understanding what each role can and cannot do is essential for maintaining data privacy and ensuring the right people have the right level of access.

Role Hierarchy

Roles follow a top-down hierarchy: Admin > HR > Manager > Employee. Higher roles inherit all permissions of the roles below them.

How to Assign Roles

  1. Navigate to Dashboard > Team
  2. Click on a user's name to open their profile
  3. Use the System Role dropdown to select Admin, HR, Manager, or User
  4. Click Save

You can also assign roles in bulk through the CSV import feature by including a role column with values: admin, hr, manager, or user.

Warning

Only Admins can change user roles. Be cautious when granting Admin or HR access, as these roles can view all review data across the entire workspace.

Why Roles Matter for Data Visibility

The most sensitive data in Nami is review content. Roles ensure that:

  • Employees only see their own reviews and goals, never their peers' assessments
  • Managers see reviews for their direct reports but not for other teams
  • HR can access all reviews for calibration and compliance but cannot change billing or workspace settings
  • Admins have unrestricted access and are responsible for overall workspace configuration

Tip

Audit your role assignments quarterly. As people change teams or get promoted, their Nami role may need to be updated to reflect new responsibilities.
