Team Management: Adding & Managing Users

How to add, edit, and organize team members in your workspace

3 min read

The Team page is your central hub for managing everyone in your Nami workspace. From here you can sync users from Slack, edit individual profiles, organize people into departments, and perform bulk updates via CSV.

Syncing Users from Slack

The fastest way to populate your workspace is to sync directly from Slack.

  1. Navigate to Dashboard > Team
  2. Click the Sync from Slack button in the top-right corner
  3. Nami pulls in all active Slack workspace members

The sync imports each user's display name and profile photo. It does not overwrite fields you have already edited (department, job title, level, manager, or role).

Info

New employees who join your Slack workspace are not added to Nami automatically. Run the Slack sync again or add them manually whenever you onboard someone new.

Editing a User Profile

Click on any user's name in the team list to open their edit page. You can update the following fields:

  • System Role -- their Nami permission level: Admin, HR, Manager, or User
  • Department Head -- toggle to allow them to calibrate reviews for their department
  • Job title -- their current position (e.g., "Senior Software Engineer")
  • Job family -- their career track (e.g., Engineering, Product)
  • Job level -- their level within the framework (e.g., IC3, M1)
  • Manager -- their direct manager (selected from existing users)
  • Team / Squad -- their team or squad name
  • Hire date -- when they joined the company

Tip

Setting the manager field correctly is critical. It determines who receives manager review assignments, who can view the employee's goals, and how the org chart is structured.

Bulk CSV Import

For large teams or initial setup, use the CSV import tool at Dashboard > Team > Import. Prepare a CSV file with the following columns:

ColumnRequiredExample
emailYesjane@company.com
nameNoJane Smith
departmentNoEngineering
job_titleNoSenior Engineer
levelNoIC3
manager_emailNoalex@company.com
roleNomanager

The importer matches users by email address. Existing users are updated; unmatched emails will create new user records.

Warning

Always preview the import results before confirming. The importer shows a diff of what will change so you can catch errors before they are applied.

Viewing Your Org Structure

The Team page supports two views:

  • List view -- a searchable, filterable table of all users with department, role, and manager columns
  • Org chart view -- a visual hierarchy based on manager assignments showing reporting lines

Use the org chart to verify that manager chains are correct before launching a cycle. Broken or missing manager links appear as disconnected nodes at the top level.

Bulk Actions

Select multiple users from the list view to perform bulk actions such as changing department, updating role, or reassigning managers. This is useful during team restructures or when onboarding a new department.

Run this in Slack with Nami
